About Alo Donegans

Alo Donegans Store Portlaoise

Alo Donegans, was established in 1929. It continues to this day as a family run business. Originally a bicycle store, it has changed with the times and continues as a work in progress.

Alo Donegan, first opened the shop doors in 1929. A renowned cyclist on the Irish racing circuit, it was no surprise this venture started out as a bicycle store. He later opened up in Portlarlington, where he resided until passing in his late 80’s. It was exclusively a bicycle shop until the electrification of the country in the 1940s when, alongside bicycles it became a supplier of radios to county Laois.

Eamonn Donegan

Eamonn Donegan, the 4th of the Donegan sons, took over the running of the Portlaoise shop in the 1960’s. With the changing of the times, bicycles were slowly faded out in favour of newer technologies.

Kevin Donegan

Kevin Donegan, is the third generation of Donegans to keep the family name flying in Portlaoise’s market square. Kevin is extremely knowledgeable in finding the right product for you from Telescopes to Led Lenser torches.

The shop continues to diversify and now stocks everything from traditional musical instruments to insulated food and drink bottles, LED torches, Telescopes, Binoculars, Leatherman and Swiss Army Knives and has also provided a key cutting service for 30 years. Alo Donegan’s the A to Z from aerials to Zippos & everything else you need.
